FOSCA
TO BE PREMIERED in OCTOBER 2025
There is a time when we’re little when we begin to imagine. We dream while awake. We see things that aren’t there. Or are they? And then comes fear. Fear of getting stuck alone with what we imagine, in the darkness.
FOSCA is a performance for young audiences and their families that explores darkness as a realm of creativity and imagination. Featuring three performers‑singers on stage and using an accessible, poetic, contemporary language, the piece interweaves movement, live voice, music and lighting technology to craft a visual‑sonic narrative about darkness and how to inhabit it with curiosity and confidence. Rather than linking darkness to fear, FOSCA offers a poetic re‑signification of it, turning it into a place of fantasy, trust and play: its point of departure is the belief that darkness need not be dreaded if it is accompanied by sensitive tools and sensory storytelling that transform it into an aesthetic, emotional experience.
This is an interdisciplinary, innovative creation that aims to expand the vocabulary of contemporary theatre for young audiences, embracing an emotional dramaturgy built from song, choreography and luminous atmosphere. The approach aligns with the research of Aurora Bauzà & Pere Jou into the relationship between body, voice and lighting technology. With FOSCA, they adapt that research to a family‑friendly format, preserving artistic rigour and scenic originality while broadening its pedagogical and expressive reach to stimulate children’s imagination, creativity and poetic understanding.
